A leading UK-based Building Society is currently seeking a skilled developer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract, with strong potential for extension. As part of the Delivery - Engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining and delivering changes to the infrastructure supporting the client's Savings and Payments services. Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, and test software and configurations, ensuring compliance with development standards and business requirements.
  • Analyse and resolve live defects/incidents to maintain system stability and reliability.
  • Participate in peer reviews to uphold coding standards and best practices.
  • Work with architects, analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into technical solutions, including impact analysis.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies through internal training and self-development.
  • Assess requirements and designs to support project planning.
  • Ensure system architecture meets standards for scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.

Skills/Must have:

  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the core technologies used within YBS's Savings and Finance landscape, including COBOL (ideally with a COBOL IT compiler), Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, and Perforce.
  • Proven ability to create clear and detailed documentation, with a granular-level understanding of key database packages and COBOL modules to ensure accurate system descriptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex information and develop technical solutions that meet the required business outcomes efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Experience delivering software change within the Financial Services sector, with a strong understanding of working within a highly regulated environment.
